“Redland Man, 61, Killed in 10 Freeway Crash” is the latest addition to the escalating number of freeway crashes. According to CBS Broadcasting, a 61-year-old Redland man was killed on the Westbound of San Bernardino freeway when his car veered off the road and struck a tree.
Investigation revealed that the victim was driving a 2003 Honda Element when the accident occurred. But for unknown reasons, the car drifted off the right shoulder before it finally crash.
Incidents of freeway crashes have increased in recent days. Nowadays, I just observed that freeway crash incident is quite rampant. How often do we hear of freeway accidents reported on television almost everyday? In this week alone, there are three reported freeway crashes in a single day.
Freeways are built and constructed according to required specifications that are often dependent on the volume of vehicles, the rate of traffic and the speed with which most vehicles will travel along them. Despite these considerations, freeway accidents continue to rise, and the causes are may not be directly attributable to road defects.
As mentioned in the report, majority of freeway crashes results in death. That is why the authorities are doing some research on the possible causes of such incident.
One possible reason I can think of is improper maintenance of the car. This means that the car owner does not regularly check his car engine. Maybe there are parts that need to be replaced, lubricated and fixed. Sometimes the tires are already worn out and need to be replaced.
Overspeeding is also one of the leading causes of freeway accidents. An improperly maintained car cannot perform well under the stress of high speed travel and may lead to accidents.
Therefore, simple rules like checking your car engine regularly may actually save your life.
