Judge Warns Teen Drunk Driver

Driving entails great responsibility. The driver owes safe driving not only to himself but to others as well.

Typically, when you are drunk, you avoid the wheel. But people especially teenagers could be stubborn at times that they force themselves to drive even if they could not and should not drive.

The case of Milad Moulayi was the perfect example. Moulayi caused his 16 year old friend, Mackenzie Frazee to die in a high speed alcohol crash. Before a juvenile court judge, he was warned that “getting behind the wheel of a car carries an intense amount of responsibility.”

Moulayi was 16 when the incident happened in 2007. Due to the impact, the their car was cut in half. Frazee sustained fatal injuries despite wearing a seatbelt.

Now that he is 18 and being tried as an adult, the stakes are higher. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of youth deaths, aged 15 to 20 years. Forty percent of the total 12.8 percent of fatal traffic crashes involved drunk teen drivers.

While lawmakers and law enforcement step up to lessen its occurrence, teenagers’ aggressiveness and disregard of rules often cause them to drive while intoxicated.

Young and inexperienced drivers should not be drinking while driving in the first place. But the sad reality is they do it too often. Worse, innocent people are being dragged into it.

Victims of teen drunk driving or any alcohol related incident may consult a personal injury lawyer to pursue his claim for compensation against the party at fault.
